Not Approved: Mateo Fuentes

This zine was inspired by Mateo Fuentes's Not Approved by the Comics Code Authority! interview. I drew inspiration from his bold printmaking graphics and comic book influenced style. The result was a hand-crafted publication that captures the rebellious spirit of his work through my own lens.

Overview

My process began by creating my own typography inspired by his work. The letterforms were designed to feel energetic and exaggerated. I utilized halftone textures inspired by traditional comic book printing techniques. Throughout the layout I incorporated select graphics from his printmaking accompanied by the text from the interview.
