New Glass Now
This project was developed as an informational package for the Smithsonian's New Glass Now exhibit, celebrating contemporary innovation in glass art. The collection includes a museum catalog, donor card, informational booklet on glass blowing, sticker pack, and custom box design. All elements are unified by a vibrant and fluid visual identity inspired by glass itself.
Overview
I approached this project as an opportunity to imagine how a museum might communicate information through printed materials. The visual direction of this project was inspired by the fluid qualities of glass. I used bold gradients and abstract forms to mirror the medium's energy.
Process
My process began with an unconventional experiment. I decided to create a custom typeface using chocolate sauce to form the letters. I was interested in how the fluid movement of the chocolate sauce could relate to glass. This experiment set the tone for the rest of the visual identity. It was rooted in motion and unpredictability. like glass itself.
From there, I did a deep dive on the history and craft of glass blowing in order to better understand the material. I was inspired by the way glass captures light through its transparency and natural luminosity. Layered shapes, gradients, and fluid forms became key components of my design.
I experimented with a variety of print materials and finishes including holographic paper, acetate film, silver dusted metalo paper, and spiral bindings.
Outcome
The final collection reflects the energy and creativity of contemporary glass art while remaining educational. This project showcases my skills in branding, layout design, and creating an immersive user experience.
